Now and Here
Casa Mina
Are you visiting Barcelona?
Let me guess your itinerary.
Accommodation is booked in the center of the city, where tourist attractions are easily accessible.
Once you arrive at one of them, you will be busy to take photos for social media, and rush to the next destination.
Perhaps it’s the ‘must go restaurant’ or the ‘must visit places in Barcelona’ that a blogger told you about.
After filling all 48 pages of my passport with stamps, I realized that those were not a genuine trips.
Now, it’s time for me to bring you to a special trip for yourself.
You may not visit where others told you to go but you will guide yourself to where you belong.
If by the end of this journey you feel close to yourself, you can call it a successful trip.
CASA MINA holds a unique historic meaning.
Built in the 1880s by Tomas Nualart- the architect and the former mayor, it was since labelled as a cultural heritage, and is protected by the Catalan government.
The house still holds many fragments from the time of building. A built-in marble bathtub, unique stone tiles, and a chandelier have all been a part of the house since it was built, along with its original crown molding.
You can enjoy the panoramic view of the town from the square tower of the house which was first applied to modern architecture in La Garriga,
La Garriga is a beautiful spa town near Barcelona, bordering the Montseny Natural Park and the Congost River, a tributary of the Besós River, flows along.
It is a 30minute drive or 45minute direct train ride from Plaza Catalunya.
Due to its location close to the center of Barcelona, its mild climate, and its famous thermal water, it became one of the favorite summer resorts of the Catalan bourgeoisie in the early 20th century, and Gaudí’s students built summer houses for many Barcelona nobles and wealthy people in this area.
You can enjoy a leisurely stroll while admiring the beautiful houses of Raspall, an architect famous for his modernist architecture, on both sides of the long walking trail in the center of the village. There are various hiking trails which leads you into the mountain and into the forest throughout the village.
Centered around the village square, there are supermarkets, wine shops, bakery shops, patisseries, and lovely shops where you can find organic tea as well as other various specialties of La Garriga.
The town is full of all kinds of festivals. CORPUS, a festival which decorates all the streets of the village with flower paths, SAN JUAN, a fireworks festival welcoming summer, and FIESTA MAJOR, a midsummer festival.
The town is always filled with various concerts and festivals that you can enjoy during your stay.
Early morning birds won’t let you oversleep at CASA MINA. Open the window wide. The morning sunlight and fresh air will fill your room.
Village square in the morning will be already crowded. The most loved bakery in the town is close to the square. Buy some fresh morning bread and fruits grown in the brilliant Spanish sun, and squeeze a bottle of fresh orange juice and high-quality Iberico Jamon for your breakfast.
After enjoying a slow breakfast, how about taking a walk? Walk to Bosc de Malhivern where you will find tons of olive trees. If you are lucky, you can also find the old shepherd who raises hundreds of sheeps and his dogs.
Many people still enjoy siesta here. Since we decided not to do too much, let’s take a siesta. Alternatively, you can spend half a day at a spa in the center of the town. When Siesta ends, the town square becomes crowded again. You will find people eating nothing special, but having endless conversations over a glass of wine or beer. It’s an amazing sight for Koreans, who find it a virtue to not say much..
Come back home in the evening and look up at the sky from the balcony. The sunset in this town is the most exciting variety show here. After the sunset, there is a sky filled with stars. Strangely enough, as you keep looking at those stars, you start to realise that many of the worries and thoughts in your head don’t hold much meaning.
All those thoughts that we make up in our heads are smaller than a speck of dust in this vast universe. So feel at peace, and breathe. This is the ultimate sign that the trip was a success.
